The map combines vector data (Nino boxes, typical El Nino impact zones, the 800 km circle around Samui, events, buoys, news) with one optional satellite layer.
Map layers
What you see on the Map page:
Nino boxes (red outlines): the Nino regions. Nino 3.4 is highlighted.
Impact zones (orange = usually drier, blue = usually wetter during El Nino): typical patterns, not this year's forecast (see Teleconnections).
Home circle (blue dashed): 800 km around Koh Samui. Events inside it are counted as "near".
Events: GDACS and EONET hazards, FIRMS fires. Clusters show a number; zoom in to split them.
Buoys (green dots): TAO buoys with a recent reading.
One satellite layer at a time, with a date slider and an opacity control.
Satellite layers show the latest day the provider actually has. Some products are one or more days behind (soil moisture often 2-3 days).
