Severity: red = magnitude 7 or more, or the USGS tsunami flag; orange = magnitude 6 or more; green = smaller. The flag means the event is in an area where tsunamis are possible, not that one happened.
Not an El Nino effect. It is here so that a large regional quake is never missed: the 2004 Sumatra tsunami hit Thailand's Andaman coast (Phuket, Krabi, Khao Lak). Koh Samui is in the Gulf of Thailand, well sheltered from Indian Ocean tsunamis.
