Data and trust
NASA Worldview can render any GIBS satellite layer as one image for a chosen area and day. Every 6 hours the app builds 5 such images, downloads each one to make sure it really contains data (an empty day is a tiny black picture), and lists only the good ones.
Limits. Polar-orbiting satellites pass once or twice a day; clouds hide the ground in true colour. If a day has no data the previous day is used, and the date says so.
Each picture carries its date (usually yesterday, the last complete satellite day) and a link to open the same view in Worldview to zoom and change the day.
A quick look without opening the map: storms around the island, smoke drifting in from Sumatra/Borneo fires, and the band of warm water along the equator that is El Nino.
