El Nino Watch
A daily "photo" from space as the eye would see it (Suomi NPP VIIRS or Terra MODIS). Shows clouds, smoke plumes and haze.
Map layers
These satellites orbit over the poles and image each place about once a day, in strips (swaths). Where strips meet, you can see seams or gaps. MODIS Terra passes in the morning; VIIRS in the early afternoon.
Brown-grey smudges over land or sea are often smoke or haze; bright white is cloud.
White = clouds. Grey/brown veil = smoke or haze. Blue-green swirls in water = sediment or plankton. Black stripes = no data for that day.
